Terrain-iums

Description

For this project I wanted to bring the idea of terrariums to the outside environment as way to highlight the need to protect and cherish the natural world. There is also a functional aspect of cleansing and purifying water as it moves through the terrarium and back into the earth. I designed forms that would allow rain water to fall into the vessels but with limited access to prevent overflow.

The intention is for these objects to be placed in areas where environmental destruction has left the ecosystem in need of remediation or in areas where opportunity for natural growth is possible but has been left barren.

These terrariums were designed while participating in “Liquid Fusion”, a glass design workshop at Domaine de Boisbuchet with GlassLab of the Corning Museum of Glass, in cooperation with the Vitra Design Museum and Centre Georges Pompidou.
